PANIC AND PHOBIAS

Panic attacks can be frightening to experience and can feel like a burst of anxiety and fear that reaches a peak within minutes. Here are some symptoms from the ADAA website

  • Palpitations, pounding heart, accelerated heart rate

  • Sweating

  • Trembling or shaking

  • Shortness of breath

  • Feelings of choking

  • Chest pain or discomfort

  • Nausea or abdominal distress

  • Feeling dizzy, unsteady, light-headed or faint

  • Chills or heat sensations

  • Numbness or tingling sensations

  • Feelings of unreality or feeling detached to oneself

  • Fear of losing control or "going crazy"

  • Fear of dying 

Phobias are when you experience anxiety and fear over a specific thing such as heights, closed or open spaces, leaving the house, health related and fear of driving, to name a few. Phobias can impact your life greatly by avoiding the things that trigger the anxiety. Treatment for panic and phobias include learning more about how the anxious cycle is impacting your life, physical relaxation techniques, challenging stuck and unhelpful thoughts.
